Excellence in Education through Business Links (EEBL)
Teachers can opt to undertake a placement during term time or during their holidays, and in certain cases it will count towards their CPD McCrone time. During 2006/07 Argyll and Bute teachers participated in a range of placements across Scotland. These included:
Earth & Space Placement Teachers from across Scotland were invited to spend 1 day at a Dobbies Garden Centre and 1 day at the Glasgow Science Centre discovering alternative methods of teaching about earth and space within their classroom. Nine members of staff across Argyll and Bute participated in this 2 day programme.
Gaelic Placement 4 members of teaching staff travelled to Sabhal mor Ostaig, the Gaelic College on Skye to investigate the various career paths open to Gaelic speakers. In addition, 2 members of staff attended a 5 day placement with the Gaelic unit at the BBC.
Outdoor Capital UK, Fort William Fort William has a lot to offer Scotland and has been named at the outdoor capital for the UK. 3 members of staff attended a one day seminar to discover just what Fort William has to offer and how these outdoor activities and events can contribute to the secondary curriculum.
Hospitality Seminar Scotland has a growing hospitality sector and a member of Oban High school teaching staff heard all about the careers on offer at a one day event held in Aviemore.
Ardkinglas Estate Cairndow 2 primary teachers from Drumlember Primary are spending time working with Ardkinglas Estate. They are putting together an educational package that can be used with children visitors to the estate and also in the classroom to explain how estate people used to live.
Forestry Commission A member of staff from Rhu Primary has spent considerable time with the Forestry Commission devising a programme of events and an educational pack/video that can be used with primary pupils visits.
The basics of EEBL are outlined in the following leaflet
