The acquisition and development of good quality numerical skills is a vital element in assisting children in Argyll and Bute to reach their full potential at school, at home and in the community. At school, attaining good quality numerical skills will increase children’s capabilities to deal with the broad range of subjects involving numeracy from mathematics and science to aspects of expressive arts and physical education.
At home and in the community, possessing these skills will help children to deal with the many day-to-day situations requiring numeracy from handling personal income and expenditure to domestic tasks such as cooking and decorating. As young people leave school to enter the workplace and establish their own independent lifestyle, it is important that they can do so with the knowledge, capabilities and self- confidence engendered by the possession of good quality numerical skills.
